RWBY is an upcoming American anime-inspired web-series created by Rooster Teeth Productions' animation studio. The series is created and directed by animator Monty Oum. The first episode of RWBY is scheduled to premiere July 5, 2013 at the 2013 Rooster Teeth Expo.
Currently, not much is known about the show, but the Red trailer shows that monsters, such as werewolves, roam the world and that they must be destroyed, and the White, Black, and Yellow trailers show that it may be set in some sort of modern-day era. Based on the first character's design, it was presumed that the other three main characters will be based on fairy tale characters, but when asked, Monty confirmed that none of the characters will be based on any fairy tale characters, but will allude to them. Monty has stated that in the RWBY world, the customs by which people are named are very interesting. Currently, the show is in full production.
The story takes place in a modern setting filled with supernatural forces. The series focuses on four girls, each with their own unique weapon and powers, who come together as a team at a school where they are trained to battle these forces alongside other similar teams. We are not given with a solid and detailed plot, but for sure, we can have a detailed story on what will happen and how the story will develop.
The series has gotten its approval during RvB Season 10 crunch time. Burnie said to Monty: "If you finish Season 10, then you can do whatever you want." The show is still being written. In Roosterteeth Podcast 191, Monty confirmed that RWBY will not replace Red vs. Blue and it will be made alongside RvB. He also stated that he had to give Miles and Kerry homework to watch anime to help get an idea of the genre and how the show should work. The inspiration for the world spun off from Monty spraying and mashing ketchup onto a napkin. He describes that as the anarchic force that drives the series. Monty stated that he was in the R&D (Research and Development) process for years before finally beginning to make RWBY.
